Nihon Matsuri (Japan Festival) is held the last Saturday in April and is free to the public. This street festival involves the Japanese community groups in Salt Lake City showcasing the culture and heritage of Japan. Japantown (100 South) is blocked off between 2nd and 3rd West and features stages on both ends with entertainment including martial arts, taiko, dance, and a kimono fashion show.
As a fundraising effort, the JCC participates in a food booth, traditionally selling sushi and manju and the youth group sells rice balls and other food items. Food preparation occurs the week and day before and help is always needed.
